The short version
Tab Reaper uses tab information to remove duplicates, close inactive tabs and protect tabs you choose to keep. We do not operate a server that receives your browsing history. The extension and app contain no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or marketing SDKs, and Tab Reaper does not track you across apps or websites.
This policy covers the Tab Reaper extension for Chrome and Safari, the Tab Reaper app for Mac, iPhone and iPad that contains the Safari extension, and this website. Some features differ by browser, platform and version.
Information used by the extension
The extension reads browser-provided tab information, including URLs, titles, tab and window identifiers, activity and properties such as pinned or audible status. It uses this information on your device to apply your cleanup rules.
- Preferences and protected sites: stored using browser sync storage with a local fallback. If browser-account sync is enabled, your browser provider may synchronize preferences and protected-site hostnames under its own privacy policy.
- Recently closed tabs: URLs, titles, favicon references, closure times and reasons are stored locally or for the browser session. Tab Reaper keeps up to 50 entries. Remembering history across restarts is optional and can be disabled; the list can be cleared.
- Timers and “Keep this tab”: Tab Reaper keeps local timer and protection metadata, including salted URL hashes and tab-context fingerprints, to restore state after restarts. A saved Keep that no open tab has matched for 30 days is removed. We treat this metadata as personal data, not as anonymous data.
- Diagnostics: off by default. When you turn them on, a bounded local journal records cleanup events. Disabling diagnostics stops logging and clears the journal. A report may contain sensitive tab details; copying or sending it is your choice.
Tab Reaper does not read page contents through content scripts. Browser-supplied favicon URLs may cause requests to the sites serving those icons.
This website
The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may keep standard request logs, such as IP address, browser and device type, time of request and the page requested, to keep the site available and secure. These logs are kept according to Cloudflare’s retention settings. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
The website uses your device’s built-in fonts and does not load fonts, scripts or other resources from third parties. The interactive demo on the landing page runs entirely in your browser; nothing you do in it is stored or sent anywhere. We do not add analytics, advertising trackers or cookies to this website. External links, such as the App Store and the Chrome Web Store, take you to services with their own policies.
App Store privacy label
Tab Reaper’s App Store privacy label states that the app does not collect data. That stays true while Tab Reaper keeps your data on your device and adds no server, analytics, crash reporting or third-party SDKs. If that changes, we will update this page and the label first.
Retention, deletion and your choices
Local records remain until replaced, cleared, removed by the extension or deleted with its browser storage. Use the history clear button, history preference and diagnostics toggle where available. Removing a protected site updates the stored list; browser sync may propagate that change.
You can revoke extension access, disable browser sync or remove the extension and its data through your browser. Uninstalling an Apple container app may not clear all Safari extension data; use Safari’s extension and website-data controls as needed. Removing local data does not delete emails already sent to support.
We keep support correspondence only as needed to handle your request and any applicable legal obligations. Because we keep no server copy of your tabs, history or settings, there is no Tab Reaper account to access or delete.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including in the European Economic Area, you may request access to personal information we hold, correction, deletion or restriction, object to processing, receive a copy of information you provided, and withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. To make a request, email support@tabreaper.app.
You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. In Czechia, this is the Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů, uoou.gov.cz).
Where a legal basis is required, we process support messages based on our legitimate interest in responding to requests and maintaining the product, or as steps needed to provide support under a contract with you. Records we must keep by law rely on that legal obligation.
Children
Tab Reaper is not directed to children. If you are under the age required in your country to consent to online services (15 in Czechia), use Tab Reaper only with permission from a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email support@tabreaper.app.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy before or when the product or its data practices change, and show the revision date on this page.
